A National Insurance number is not essential for a small number of employers. However, if you wish to start working or to study, or would like to start a business in the UK then a National insurance number is vital. Without a NI number, you will be unable to claim benefits.
In order to apply for a NI Number, you must hold a residency in the UK. By using the NiNo Application service our specially trained staff will arrange your EOI (Evidence of Identity) interview before you arrive in the U.K. (you must be able to provide us with a valid U.K address where you will be living when you arrive in the UK. you to come to an interview where you’ll be asked about your circumstances and why you need a National Insurance number. You will be informed which documents to bring with you to prove your identity, such as, a valid UK or foreign passport or foreign identity card, residence permit card including bio-metric immigration residency documents, birth or adoption certificate, marriage or civil partnership certificate and driving licence, proof of UK address. Please try and bring as many original ‘identity documents’ (not photocopies) to your interview.
All people entering the UK with the intention of working and taking residency including EU, EEA and Swiss nationals, providing they have a Home Office Visa confirming they have the legal right to work in the U.K will need to book a NINO appointment.
